How to Apply for a Home
In order to apply to be a Habitat family partner, you must meet the following qualifications:
- You must be a legal resident of Brevard County for at least six months
- You must be either married or unmarried (not separated)
Prospective Habitat homeowners must apply and be accepted into the program based on three criteria:
1. NEED FOR SHELTER
Applicants must currently be living in sub-standard or inadequate housing (government housing, structurally unsafe, or overcrowded).
2. ABILITY TO PAY
Applicants must earn between 35%-80% of the Brevard County average gross median income for their household size, and have a sustainable source of income to repay the zero interest 20-30 year mortgage.
3. WILLINGNESS TO PARTNER
Future homeowners must contribute a minimum of 300 sweat equity hours which include a combination of; community service, homeowner finance education classes and hands on building of Habitat houses.
